Syria crisis: Assad says country 'at critical moment'

Breaking news

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad has said his country is facing its most serious crisis since the end of colonialism.

Addressing parliament in Damascus, he blamed "foreign meddling" for the country's divisions.

He blamed "terrorists", supported by foreign powers, for fomenting discord and creating "a project of... dissent".

It was the first time he had spoken publicly since the Houla massacre, in which more than 100 people were killed.
