West Yorkshire Police had earlier appealed for help in tracing the girl, who said she was called Ellie and lived in the city.
The call could not at first be traced, but was later found to have been made in Bridlington, East Yorkshire.
Two 10-year-old girls in the town have been "spoken to", said police.
